The building plot is situated close to the shore on the island of Herrenchiemsee, southwest of the passenger quay. The angular development is aligned to the main quay and creates, with the existing waiting hall, an architecturally clearly defined square that absorbs the streams of visitors and provides the connection to the footpaths to the palaces of the island.

The main functions of the visitor`s centre - information, tickets, shop, kiosk, toilets - are clearly arranged in the part of the building oriented to the square. Covered public areas with varying widths and patches of trees in the square offer shelter from rain or sun and invite to a longer stay.
